The San Francisco 49ers are letting defensive end Ray McDonald have his due process, but head coach Jim Harbaugh let the world know what will happen if McDonald is found guilty of domestic violence.
“I’ll be very clear,” Harbaugh said via Deadspin. “You ask me how I feel about domestic violence. I can be very clear about that. If someone physically abuses a woman and/or physically or mentally abuses or hurts a child, then there’s no understanding. There’s no tolerance for that.”
Harbaugh was asked if he would not allow a player found guilty of domestic violence on his team, to which he replied, “Yes, we would not. We can be very clear.”
McDonald was was jailed on felony domestic violence charges Sunday after an alleged altercation involving his pregnant fiancée. Niners general manager Trent Baalke said in a new conference Tuesday that the team has not decided whether McDonald will play in their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
“Well, right now it’s a legal matter,” Baalke said via the San Jose Mercury News. “There’s such a thing called due process, and we intend on letting that play out.”
