Tyler SeguinTyler Seguin finished fourth in the NHL in scoring last season and should challenge for the Art Ross Trophy again in 2014-15.

After Seguin led the Dallas Stars with 84 points (37 goals, 47 assists), one franchise legend believes the young center will be even more productive in the coming years.

Mike Modano — who led the Stars to their only Stanley Cup title in 1999 and will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November — believes Seguin has a chance to break his single-season team record of 93 points, set in 1993-94.

“He has the tools to do it,” Modano told Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News. “Having (Jason) Spezza will certainly help, but just having Jamie (Benn) means that both should be in that discussion. They both have that ability, and they push each other pretty hard. You get a good power play, and who knows what can happen. There will be a time when he’s pushing 100, and that could be this season.”

Seguin helped the Stars end a five-year playoff drought last season, but he scored just one goal in Dallas’ six-game first-round series defeat to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Stars made a few notable additions to their forward group over the summer. They acquired top-six center Jason Spezza via trade from the Ottawa Senators and signed free-agent winger Ales Hemsky.

Scoring 100 points isn’t impossible for Seguin, but it won’t be easy, even with the collection of offensive talent around him. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was the only player who tallied more than 87 points last season. He led the league with 104.
