Within an hour of The Associated Press reporting that the NFL had been in possession of video of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice knocking out his then-fiancée since April, the league responded.

In a statement, the NFL claimed that it did not know of anyone in the league office ever having a copy of the video.

An anonymous law enforcement official told the AP on Wednesday that he sent a DVD of the surveillance footage to an NFL executive three months ago, but was unaware of whether it was seen by anyone in the league. The NFL had previously claimed that it tried to obtain the footage from inside the Atlantic City, N.J., elevator, but was unable to.
