Jim IrsayThe NFL didn’t waste any time handing down the punishment to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Just hours after Irsay pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, the NFL suspended Irsay for six games and fined him $500,000 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The suspension will begin Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET. Irsay will be eligible to return following the Colts’ game against the Houston Texans on Oct. 9.

During Irsay’s suspension, he will not be allowed at the team facility, he cannot attend practices, games or league functions and he is not even allowed to be active on social media “regarding any team or league matters.”

“I have stated on numerous occasions that owners, management personnel and coaches must be held to a higher standard than players,” Goodell said in his letter to Irsay. “We discussed this during our meeting and you expressed your support for that view, volunteering that owners should be held to the highest standard.”

The league also added that Irsay will be subject to “ongoing treatment, counseling, and testing as determined by medical professionals and the Indiana court.”
