The new NHL season is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to start making predictions on which players will win the end-of-the-year awards handed out in Las Vegas next June.
Oddsmakers at Bovada released their odds for the top trophies Tuesday, and a few Boston Bruins players made the lists.
The only Boston player favored to win an award is goaltender Tuukka Rask. He has 3-1 odds to win the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender. Rask won the award last season, and there hasn’t been a repeat winner since New Jersey Devils legend Martin Brodeur in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
Rask also is the only Bruins player to appear on the list of Hart Trophy candidates — he has 35-1 odds to win the MVP. The last goaltender to win the award was Jose Theodore of the Montreal Canadiens in 2001-02. Bruins center Patrice Bergeron isn’t on the Hart Trophy list despite finishing fifth in voting last season. His omission is a bit baffling.
Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is the only other B’s player listed. He’s third on the Norris Trophy list with 11-2 odds. Chara finished second in last season’s Norris voting.
