Patriots Practice Report: Jerod Mayo Absent, Practice Squad Filled

NFL: New England Patriots-Training CampFOXBORO, Mass. — A starting linebacker returned to practice for the New England Patriots on Wednesday, and a different starting linebacker was absent.

Jamie Collins was spotted at practice after missing Friday’s session and Sunday’s game with a thigh injury. Jerod Mayo was absent after playing all 69 defensive snaps in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Patriots also filled out their 10-man practice squad. There was a defensive back wearing No. 41 on the field for the start of practice.

Tight end Tim Wright, defensive tackle Joe Vellano, running back Jonas Gray, linebacker Ja’Gared Davis and wide receiver Josh Boyce wore black practice player of the week jerseys.

Offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann was wearing No. 68 and defensive lineman Kona Schwenke wore No. 97. Both players signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Tuesday.
