Paul George probably should have sat this one out.

The Indiana Pacers star weighed in on the Ray Rice domestic-violence case Thursday morning with some comments that were certainly questionable, to say the least.

While George doesn’t “condone” hitting a woman, he added that he believes Rice — who was released by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL — should be allowed to play largely because he was provoked.

George, who is currently rehabbing after breaking his leg in a Team USA exhibition scrimmage and will likely miss the entire 2014-15 season, might have some extra time on his hands as he recovers, but he should probably think about stepping away from the ol’ Twitter machine. At least for a while.

UPDATE (10:13 a.m.): George has since deleted the controversial tweets, but he did attempt some damage control. George sent out an apology just a couple hours after his tweets created a stir, apologizing to women and the victims of domestic violence.
