Adrian PetersonThe Minnesota Vikings reportedly are ready to cut ties with running back Adrian Peterson following his indictment on a felony charge of injury to a child in Texas.

The Vikings placed Peterson on the exempt/commissioner’s permission list Wednesday, and it appears they’ve already looking ahead to their next move. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday, citing league sources, that the team does not “foresee Peterson in their future.”

That news could come as a shock to Peterson, who “is in denial” about his short- and long-term future with the team, a team source told Mortensen. According to multiple sources, Peterson “really doesn’t get it,” and several league sources said the running back “has not come to grips with the prospect that his 2014 season has all but officially ended and that his future in the NFL is uncertain,” per Mortensen.

Mortensen added that regardless of how Peterson’s legal case plays out, the league will “severely” discipline the star.
