It’s not unusual in golf to see a shot land in a tree, bush or water hazard.

But in a spectator’s pocket? That’s unheard of, right?

That’s exactly what happened on a Rory McIlroy tee shot on the par-4 14th hole Friday in the second round of the Tour Championship. The shot bounced into a tree before falling directly into the right pocket of a fan’s shorts.

It turned out to be a lucky day for the fan, who used his 15 seconds of fame to talk to Rory and shake his hand before giving the ball back to him. McIlroy was awarded free relief and dropped the ball from the spot where he was standing when it landed in the fan’s pocket.

Despite the inauspicious start to the hole, McIlroy went on to make par and left the fan, who unfortunately didn’t get to keep the ball, with an unforgettable memory.
