Steve BeauharnaisWhat a coincidence. The Minnesota Vikings hosted a former New England Patriots linebacker on a workout Tuesday, just five days before the two teams square off.

Former Patriots linebacker Steve Beauharnais worked out for the Vikings on Tuesday, a source confirmed a report by Art Stapleton of The Record.

Beauharnais was waived by the Patriots with an injury settlement on Aug. 30 during final roster cuts. He was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (No. 235 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft.

NFL teams are known to sign or work out players from future opposing squads to gain intel or play mind games. The Patriots, for example, signed former Vikings tight end Allen Reisner to the practice squad last Wednesday before cutting him on Saturday.

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: The Vikings also worked out former Patriots guard Jon Halapio, ESPN’s Field Yates reported Tuesday.
