The best block to come out of Saturday’s Texas A&M-SMU game happened on the sideline.

Ryan Kreider, a member of A&M’s Corps of Cadets sprung into action during his school’s 58-6 blowout win, as he threw his body in front of a Mustangs receiver who was barreling toward the school’s canine mascot. Kreider successfully deflected Der’rikk Thompson away from Reveille, who was taking a peaceful snooze at the time and was blissfully unaware of the chaos around her.

Well, now, one of the best stories of the weekend is getting even better.

According to The Associated Press, Brig. Gen. Joe Ramirez Jr., the commandant of the Corps, was watching the game and decided to reward the sophomore for keeping the adorable pooch safe. Ramirez offered to pay for Kreider’s senior boots that cost $1,326 on average.
