The second goal Joel scored Wednesday was an average breakaway, but the Cameroonian’s goal celebration was straight out of Harry Houdini’s repertoire.
Joel, a striker for Brazilian club Coritiba, fell into a hole after scoring a late goal in his team’s 3-1 win over Sao Paulo in Brazil’s Serie A (first division).
In the 86th minute, Joel broke free, rounded Sao Paulo goalkeeper Denis and scored the game-clinching goal. He wanted to celebrate with the fans, so he leaped over the advertising boards and then vanished without a trace … for a few moments.
Joel actually fell into the tunnel that leads to the dressing rooms at Coritiba’s Couto Pereira Stadium. A large flag was covering the opening when Joel jumped over the boards. The 20-year-old quickly emerged from the depths, but he appeared to be shaken up.
