Xander BogaertsXander Bogaerts’ afternoon ended rather quickly Sunday.

Bogaerts exited the Boston Red Sox’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards before the bottom of the second inning with neck stiffness. The shortstop garnered one at-bat and made one play in the field before leaving the game.

Bogaerts grounded out to shortstop J.J. Hardy in in the first inning. He appeared to grimace after fouling off a 1-1 pitch, though it’s unclear whether it was related to his injury. Bogaerts remained in the game and caught a line drive from Nelson Cruz to end the bottom of the first.

Bogaerts, who was playing in his 140th game this season, entered Sunday hitting .237 with 12 homers and 43 RBIs. The 21-year-old was hitting .310 with 13 RBIs in 20 games since being activated from the seven-day concussion disabled list Aug. 30.

Jemile Weeks took over for Bogaerts at shortstop.
