Despite publicly expressing plans to be open and transparent, the NFL is reportedly not being cooperative in the NFL Players’ Association’s investigation into the Ray Rice domestic violence case.
Richard Craig Smith, the attorney leading the probe, told The Associated Press that the NFL hasn’t revealed any documents or witnesses that the investigators have asked for.
“I am interested in the facts, and if we get cooperation from all the parties that were involved, we will have an understanding of what happened,” Smith said per ESPN.com. ”We cannot accept public statements that call for transparency, candor and openness and then not allow the investigators to do their jobs.”
Smith, a former federal prosecutor, was hired by the NFLPA to investigate how the league and the Ravens handled dealing with the Rice case.
While neither the league or the Baltimore Ravens are legally required to give the investigators anything, this certainly does not look good for the NFL, who initially promised transparency, but seemingly are not acting upon their public statements.
