NFL: Preseason-Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo BillsFOXBORO, Mass. — Bill Belichick wasn’t interested in talking much about his former starting middle linebacker Wednesday.

Brandon Spikes had an acrimonious end to his New England Patriots career, which included an unexcused absence from practice, a “misreported” knee injury and, of course, two guaranteed wins over his old team after he signed with the Buffalo Bills.

“Yeah, we know him. I don’t think he’s changed much,” Belichick said at Gillette Stadium when asked how Spikes has looked this season. “Hair might be a little longer. He’s about the same.”

Belichick had slightly more to say about the 6-foot-2, 255-pound run-stuffling linebacker in a conference call with Bills media.

“I think we know Brandon well,” Belichick said. “He’s a good, strong, physical player inside, does a good job in the running game.

“I said that he looks pretty much the same as a player that we had here, which I think he does. The strengths that he had when he played for us are I’d say the same strengths that he’s shown with Buffalo.”

Spikes has 19 tackles and one sack in five games this season, including two starts. He signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Bills over the offseason.
