It’s crazy to think it’s been 10 years since the Boston Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino.
Every Red Sox fan undoubtedly remembers where he or she was on Oct. 27, 2004, which, of course, was the night Boston won its first World Series title in 86 years. The Red Sox have won two championships since their 2004 triumph, but there was something extra special about Boston’s curse-breaking victory.
The Red Sox’s incredible comeback against the New York Yankees, in which they rallied from down 3-0 in the American League Championship Series, created a sense of inevitability going into the Fall Classic. Sure enough, the Sox, who were led by a cast of self-proclaimed “idiots,” sealed the deal with a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. Keith Foulke flipped to Doug Mientkiewicz for the final out.
