Leandro Damiao showed the difference between anĀ average, run-of-the-mill form of cheating in soccer and something far more ridiculous and sinister Sunday.

Damiao, a striker for Brazilian Serie A (first division) club Santos, appeared to pull his own jersey during his team’s 3-0 loss to host Criciuma.

It looked like Santos was taking a corner kick when Damiao reached back and started tugging his own threads, as a defender ran closely behind him.

Luckily, the referee either wasn’t fooled by it, missed it all together or simply didn’t care enough to award a penalty kick to Santos. We’re also fortunate that television cameras caught Damiao’s shameless effort at cheating. Now we can point, laugh and shake our heads (and fists) at him.

Damiao and Santos got what they deserved, as Criciuma strolled to a 3-0 win.
