Broncos’ Defensive Upgrades Have Team Poised For Another Super Bowl Run

NFL: Kansas City Chiefs at Denver BroncosPeyton Manning can only carry a team so far.

It was a record-breaking year for Manning and the Denver Broncos offense in 2013, but that wasn’t enough for Denver to overtake the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII. The Broncos defense struggled mightily throughout last season’s campaign, allowing 24.9 points per game, and in turn, dashing any hopes of bringing a championship back to Denver.

But the team went to great lengths to bolster its defense following the embarrassing 43-8 loss against Seattle, adding  T.J. Ward, Demarcus Ware and Aqib Talib during the offseason.

The defensive upgrades are not only enough to lead them back to the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year, but enough to lead them to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year, former NFL linebacker Brady Poppinga writes in his latest post for the website Football By Football.

“Denver may not have a record-breaking offense like they had last year, but that’s not the path to a championship anyhow,” Popinga writes. “They now have a defense capable of taking them to where they want to go, led by their two fierce edge rushers and the obvious problems they cause opposing offenses.”
