Kelly Olynyk, Terrence JonesWhen the Celtics acquired Kelly Olynyk on draft night last summer, the immediate sentiment in Boston went something like this:

“Oh, the Gonzaga kid with the long hair? I know him.”

Yes, the center’s shoulder-length locks were — and are — his defining trait, and not just among folks in New England and Spokane.

Men’s magazine GQ listed Olynyk this week as one of its “Seven Scruffiest Men in Professional Sports,” dubbing the 7-footer “The Iron Maiden Giant.”

“You see a seven-foot-tall, 240-pound human roadblock,” GQ’s Sam Schube writes. “We see a man who could, with some training, become the best roadie in human history.”

Others making the list include Clay “The Fearsome Fabio” Matthews, Clayton “The Teen Wolf” Kershaw and Chris “The Best-Looking Guy Ever” Andersen, known to most of the basketball world as “Birdman.” The magazine also pays special tribute to the Oakland A’s bevy of beards, calling them “Baseball’s Most Dazed and Confused Team.”
