Celtics head coach Brad Stevens announced Wednesday that rookie James Young is “week to week” after suffering a hamstring injury. He will not play Wednesday night as Boston takes on the New York Knicks at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

Young told reporters he suffered the injury before Monday’s preseason-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers, per MassLive.com’s Jay King. The Kentucky product played 20 minutes in the Celtics’ 98-78 victory, scoring 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting.

Rajon Rondo (hand), Vitor Faverani (knee) and Jeff Green (calf) also will not play against the Knicks, and Marcus Thornton will be a game-time decision after undergoing dental work.

Faverani will not travel with the team to Toronto later this week as he continues to undergo tests on his surgically repaired left knee. Stevens said he hopes to have an update on the second-year center’s condition by this weekend.
