Jake Peavy Could Buy Cable Car If Giants Beat Royals, Win World Series

Jake PeavyJake Peavy, who famously purchased a duck boat following the Boston Red Sox’s 2013 World Series win, isn’t entirely sure what he’ll buy if his San Francisco Giants defeat the Kansas City Royals in this year’s Fall Classic.

But he has at least one idea.

“Everybody thought the duck boat was an impulse buy, but I had the check in my pocket during the parade,” Peavy said Monday, according to The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham. “San Francisco has grown on me like Boston did, the spirit of the city. Nothing is planned right now. But I’ll tell you, I have spent some time the last few weeks getting to know what those cable cars are about.”

Peavy revealed shortly after the Red Sox’s World Series victory that the idea to buy the duck boat stemmed from a conversation he had with then-teammate Jonny Gomes. Peavy, who actually wasn’t a big fan of Gomes before joining the Red Sox, was enamored by the unique vehicle’s history and its connection to Boston. He’d like a similar memento from San Francisco.

“The duck boat was such a great memorabilia piece celebrating the World Series and we have a miniature Fenway Park with the scoreboard the same as the night we won,” Peavy said Monday, according to Abraham. “Couldn’t win one (with the Giants) and not have anything there for people to see. Wheels are spinning, but nothing is planned as it was last year.”

Peavy paid $75,000 for his duck boat. A cable car likely will be even more expensive, but the right-hander pitched well enough down the stretch that he should land a lucrative contract in free agency this offseason.
