Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens told reporters ahead of Friday’s matchup with the Toronto Raptors that his injured point guard was a limited participant in practice this week for the first time since undergoing surgery on his broken hand Sept. 26.

“Rondo has done some non-contact offensive type work in practice,” Stevens said, via Celtics.com. “Just shooting and some offensive review, but no real defensive work yet, and he hasn’t been OK’d for contact.”

Stevens said the team hopes to know “in 10 days or so” when Rondo will be healthy enough to participate in contact drills. The injury forced Rondo to take only a short break from his conditioning, however, which Stevens believes will shorten the guard’s readjustment period.

“The reason why he’s going to be able to better acclimate himself versus an ACL,” Stevens said, “is that he can start the conditioning aspect of it because he can run as much as he needs to.”

Evan Turner, Phil Pressey and rookie Marcus Smart have shared time at point guard in Rondo’s absence, with Smart starting each of the Celtics’ first three preseason games.
