Report: Geno Smith Missed Team Meeting Before Awful Showing In Jets’ Loss

Geno SmithGeno Smith continues to find new ways to go from bad to worse.

The New York Jets quarterback continued an abysmal season Sunday with an atrocious showing in a blowout loss to the San Diego Chargers. Smith’s poor play led to his benching at halftime, as Michael Vick was inserted at quarterback.

Now it seems as if Smith had a lapse in preparation leading up to the game. According to multiple reports, Smith missed a team meeting Saturday night.

A team spokesperson told Newsday that Smith’s absence was an honest mistake. Evidently, Smith was confused about the time of the meeting and didn’t arrive until five to 10 minutes after it had ended. Smith then went over the game plan with coaches, according to Newsday.

Still, it’s not a good look for Smith, whose NFL career appears to be at a crossroads after just 21 games. Smith was pulled Sunday after completing just 4 of 12 passes for 27 yards — with an interception to boot. Vick didn’t fare much better, though, as the Chargers cruised to a 31-0 win that dropped the Jets’ record to 1-4.
