Jerry HughesFOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots didn’t practice on Monday, but they still released a practice report.

Let us explain.

According to NFL rules, teams must release three practice participation and injury reports each week. Since the Patriots have a short week, playing Thursday night against the New York Jets, they’ll only practice three times this week, so they were forced to release a hypothetical injury report.

In the Patriots’ projected injury report, Tom Brady (ankle) was among eight players limited in “practice.” Cornerback Brandon Browner (ankle), linebacker Jamie Collins (thigh), defensive lineman Dominique Easley (shoulder/knee), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee), defensive end Chandler Jones (shoulder), safety Devin McCourty (rib) and wide receiver Matthew Slater (shoulder) also were limited.

Guard Dan Connolly (concussion), safety Nate Ebner (finger), center Bryan Stork (concussion) and offensive lineman Cameron Fleming (finger) would not have practiced. Running back Stevan Ridley (knee) and linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee) already have been ruled out for Thursday’s game.
