More than 11,000 rowers from across the world will participate in the 50th annual Head of the Charles, the world’s largest two-day regatta, on Oct. 18 and 19.

But before the real competitors take over Charles River, Boston’s sports mascots grabbed an oar and hopped into a rowing scull for a quick training session with Head of the Charles Regatta executive director Fred Schoch.

The mascots included Wally the Green Monster of the Boston Red Sox, Lucky of the Boston Celtics and Slyde the Fox of the New England Revolution.

The regatta takes place on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a crowd of 400,000 spectators is expected.

Check out the mascots in action below.
