Robert Griffin IIIAfter the Washington Redskins’ loss to the 2-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Robert Griffin III made some comments that didn’t go over well with many people.

Count head coach Jay Gruden among those folks.

Griffin — who has lost three of the four games he’s started this season — alluded to reporters that he needs the help of his supporting cast in order to win games.

During his session with the media Monday, Gruden had no problem calling out his quarterback.

“Robert needs to understand he needs to worry about himself number one and not everybody else,” Gruden said, via ESPN. “It’s his job to worry about his position, his footwork, his fundamentals, his reads, his progressions, his job at the quarterback position. It’s my job to worry about everybody else.

“And, yes, everybody else needs to improve. There’s no question about it. But it’s not his place. His place is to talk about himself, and he knows that. He just elaborated a little bit too much.”

Griffin never has been afraid to speak his mind, but apparently his head coach is going to let him know when he crosses the line.

“It’s our job in-house as players and coaches to make sure we say the right things and not let your words get twisted by the media or anybody,” Gruden added. “Otherwise it’ll be he-said, she-said and there will be Twitter wars and social media events that will get out of control. We’ve got to put a stop to it now.”

Shortly after Gruden’s press conference, Griffin sent out a series of tweets defending his comments.
