Terrell Suggs didn’t do much to help his reputation Sunday night.

The Baltimore Ravens linebacker was at the center of controversy after a questionable hit on Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeGarrette Blount in the third quarter.

A host of Ravens stood up Blount after he gained a chunk of yards, leaving him in a vulnerable position. That’s when Suggs came in from behind the play and took a shot at Blount’s legs.

Blount2As you might imagine, the hit didn’t sit very well with Blount’s teammates. It actually sparked a small skirmish between the longtime AFC North rivals, as Pittsburgh running back LeVeon Bell eventually went after Suggs.

Blount3Things boiled over into a war of words after the game.

“I don’t know what (Suggs) was doing,” Blount said, via ProFootballTalk.com. “I don’t know what he was thinking. He’s known to be a dirty player. As long as he does that, he’s going to continue to have people come after him and do whatever we did to get in his head.”

Suggs insisted he wasn’t trying to hurt Blount.

“He was running, he was still up and he was moving the pile,” Suggs told the Baltimore Sun, via ProFootballTalk.com. “I assessed the play, and that was the only way I could get him down without him gaining more yards. I wasn’t trying to get him hurt. I was just trying to get the big guy down. …

“I think it was traditional Ravens-Steelers, you know what I mean? Sometimes you just play football and some things get a little obsessive, but it happens. We play in a physical sport.”

The incident might have the highlight of the night for the Ravens’ defense, as the Steelers rolled to a 43-23 win with Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throwing six touchdown passes.
