Andrew BaileyAndrew Bailey must really want to don pinstripes.

Bailey, who hasn’t pitched since 2013, signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees on Friday, a team source told NJ.com.

Bailey signed a minor league deal with the Yankees last offseason but never appeared in a game because of setbacks in his rehab from shoulder surgery. The right-hander last appeared in a major league game with the Boston Red Sox on July 12, 2013.

Bailey once was an elite closer with the Oakland Athletics, earning back-to-back All-Star selections in 2009 and 2010. He was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2009.

The Red Sox acquired Bailey from the A’s in exchange for outfielder Josh Reddick before the 2012 season. Inconsistency and injuries plagued his Boston tenure, which ended when the Sox chose not to offer him arbitration before the 2013 season.

Bailey still is just 30 years old. Perhaps he can turn things around in the Bronx in 2015.
