Kansas City Royals fans might have felt sick after attending World Series games at Kauffman Stadium — but not because of their team’s performance.

A detailed “Outside the Lines” report shows there were routinely poor food safety conditions not only at the concession stands of Kauffman Stadium, but also next door at Arrowhead Stadium — home of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jon Costa, the district food safety manager at Aramark, which runs the concessions at both stadiums, released photos of expired pizza dough, moldy hot dog buns and a cook using a garbage can to hold a ladle.

He also said that he found cockroaches in vending areas, mouse feces on trays and food being served at unsafe temperatures.

That’s not all. The Kansas City Health Department conducted an inspection in early November and found violations at 20 of the 26 food stands — including 37 critical violations, like mold growing on trays and a large number of fruit flies.

Costa said that he had tried for months to alert management of the problems at the stadiums to no avail. After releasing the photos to “Outside the Lines,” he said Aramark placed him on paid administrative leave.
