Report: Rockies Open To Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez Trade Offers

Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos GonzalezThe Colorado Rockies might be willing to move one or both of their coveted franchise cornerstones.

The Rockies are telling teams across Major League Baseball that they’re keeping their “eyes and ears open” for potential deals involving shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, major league sources told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich — named the new GM last month after Dan O’Dowd resigned — is not shopping either player or starting a fire sale, a source told Rosenthal. Colorado’s willingness to explore trades involving its star players is a stark contrast from the organization’s longtime stance, though.

Tulowitzki started 2014 with a bang before a hip injury derailed his season. The 30-year-old hit .340 with 21 homers, 52 RBIs and a 1.035 OPS, again solidifying himself as an elite talent when healthy.

Tulowitzki has $114 million remaining on his contract, which runs through 2020. His deal also includes a $15 million team option for 2021, which marks the shortstop’s age 36 season.

Gonzalez, like Tulowitzki, has dealt with injuries the last two seasons. The 29-year-old hit .238 with 11 homers, 38 RBIs and a .723 OPS in 70 games in 2014. Gonzalez is an All-Star-caliber player when healthy, so it’s reasonable to believe he could draw considerable interest on the trade market.

Gonzalez has $53 million remaining on his contract, which runs through 2017. He’s slated to become a free agent at age 32.
