Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool Could Make Signings In January Transfer Window

Liverpool is trying to help itself in the coming weeks, and manager Brendan Rodgers might shop in the January transfer market.

Then again, he might not test the market.

Rodgers said Wednesday that Liverpool will consider new signings next month, but he refused to confirm or comment on rumored links with specific players. Many believe Liverpool needs to strengthen its forward line and add a top goalkeeper next month, but Rodgers was purposely vague on potential targets.

“If there is a possibility that we can strengthen in January, we will look at that,” Rodgers said at his pregame press conference, according to the BBC. “There will always be speculation, but I won’t comment on any players.”

While Liverpool struggled through the first half of the 2014-15 season, it still is competing in four competitions. Rodgers didn’t say he needed more players, but the demands of the Premier League, UEFA Europa League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup (Football League Cup) will continue to test both the depth and quality of Liverpool’s squad in the second half of the season.

Liverpool spent £120 million ($187 million) on eight new players during the summer transfer window. The jury still is out on the outlay, and time will tell if Rodgers truly believes their contributions can satisfy the demands of the Reds’ packed schedule. If the Liverpool boss decides he needs more and finds the right players, new arrivals could be heading for the Reds’ entry gates.
