Marcus Smart will remain in Boston while his team travels to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, the Boston Celtics announced Monday.

Smart, who has missed the last nine games with a severe left ankle sprain, will not join the Celtics on their one-game road trip. He underwent a CT scan Monday at New England Baptist Hospital and results were negative, according to the team.

Smart has not played since suffering the scary injury in a game against the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 7. Celtics coach Brad Stevens had estimated Smart could return over the Thanksgiving weekend after returning to practicing last week, but the Celtics have taken a cautious approach with the rookie, who they drafted with the sixth overall pick in this year’s NBA draft.
