FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots were in a good mood Thursday, even as the media swarmed their locker room after a snowy practice.
Bill Belichick poked fun at tight end Rob Gronkowski during a morning meeting, and teammates had their usual friendly ribs for one another. Cornerback Darrelle Revis joined in on the fun when a reporter asked if he feels more comfortable in the Patriots’ system now as the team prepares for a Miami Dolphins team that beat them 33-20 in Week 1.
“I’m not comfortable. I’m not. I’ve been struggling for a while now,” Revis cracked. “No, I’m just joking. No, it’s a team effort. It’s a defensive effort. It’s all aboard. We got great, talented players on this team, in this defense. We just gotta continue to play great team ball, great chemistry ball. We’ve been doing it, man. Guys have been just coming to work. It really doesn’t have anything to do with me or me being the focal point. Everyone’s doing their job and it’s working well for us.”
Comfort doesn’t seem to be a problem for Revis, as he appears to be getting better as the season progresses, and he was targeted just once by San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers Sunday night in the Patriots’ 23-14 win, allowing a catch for three yards to wideout Keenan Allen.
Revis allowed one of his two touchdowns this season against the Dolphins in Week 1, when he let up two catches on five targets to wide receiver Mike Wallace for 36 yards and the score. He also was beaten on an incomplete deep pass from Tannehill that was slightly overthrown in the end zone.
Revis will have a chance to avenge the Patriots’ loss and his touchdown allowed this Sunday as he’s expected to match up again with the speedy Wallace.
