Don’t count the Boston Red Sox out on Jon Lester.

Lester’s agent, Seth Levinson, told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford early Monday evening that a previous report stating Boston was out of the running for the left-hander is “absolutely untrue.”

Team sources also told Bradford they believe the report is inaccurate. A source told The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham that Lester has not ruled out the Red Sox.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal previously reported, citing sources, that Lester was deciding between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs, barring a late change. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman also noted that the Giants and Cubs appear to be the favorites to sign Lester in free agency.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that hope within the Giants organization has grown over the last 24 hours. San Francisco felt like a long shot for Lester just a week ago.
