Kolo Toure spends too much time defending Liverpool’s goal to entertain questions about Brendan Rodgers’ managerial ability with any seriousness.

Toure rushed to Rodgers’ defense Monday — one day after Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United emboldened critics who are heaping pressure on the under-fire manager. Toure told Sky Sports that Rodgers retains the full backing of the Liverpool squad.

“It’s crazy to even talk about his future,” Toure said. “He’s a great manager and we all know that. Just look at how fantastic he did last season.

“We’re all behind him and we’re all trying to make things better. He’s a great manager, we all love him.”

The Manchester United loss left Liverpool stuck in the lower half (11th) of the Premier League standings. Liverpool’s lowly position, combined with last week’s UEFA Champions League elimination, has increased the sense of anxiety at Anfield.

But Toure, 33, delivered a message to fans, telling them that Liverpool will come good under Rodgers, starting with Wednesday’s Capital One Cup (League Cup) game against Bournemouth.

“My message to the fans is this: ‘keep believing’,” Toure said. “I believe in this manager and I believe in this group of players. I know we will improve during the second half of the season.

“We have to stick together and make sure we bounce back again. If we win one game, then the confidence will come back.

“The League Cup is a really important competition for us. There’s the chance to get to Wembley and win a trophy. We have the quality to do that.”
