Liverpool’s pursuit of the 2014-15 FA Cup title will begin in London in early January when they take on AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the world’s oldest domestic soccer competition.

England’s Football Association held the FA Cup third-round draw Monday and drew Liverpool against Wimbledon. The game will take place at Kingsmeadow, Wimbledon’s home stadium, between Jan. 3 and Jan. 6, 2015. The winner of the game will progress to the fourth round.

Liverpool enters the FA Cup in the third round because of its Premier League status.

Wimbledon, who compete in England’s League Two (fourth division), reached the FA Cup third round after beating Wycombe on Sunday by a score of 1-0.

Liverpool has won the FA Cup seven times — most recently in 2005-2006. The Reds lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final in 2012.

Arsenal, last season’s FA Cup winner, and Manchester United have won the most FA Cup titles with 11 each.

The FA Cup was first contested in 1871-72. Clubs from all of England’s professional and amateur divisions compete in the knockout tournament.
