List Of ‘Elite’ NFL Quarterbacks Is Much Shorter Than You Think

The word “elite” is thrown around way too often in sports these days. That’s especially true when it comes to discussing NFL quarterbacks.

Former NFL linebacker Brady Poppinga believes it’s about time we shorten the list of elite quarterbacks to include only those who are, you know, elite.

“In my opinion, a truly elite player at the very least should be in the top 90 percentile of their respective group,” Poppinga wrote on FootballByFootball.com. “That means at the most there are three quarterbacks who could be considered elite.  Clearly, that means nine of those players previously mentioned may be very good, but they can’t be elite.”

Poppinga also has his own definition of the word elite as it pertains to quarterbacks. And when he takes that criteria into account, three signal-callers come to mind. Unsurprsingly, the list includes Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.
