Patriots Practice Report: Brandon LaFell, Alan Branch Absent From Scrimmage

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots are knocking off the rust before it forms during their first-round playoff bye.

The Patriots scrimmaged on the Gillette Stadium game field Wednesday morning. The Patriots’ starting offense wore blue, while the first-team defense was in white. Wide receiver Brandon LaFell and defensive lineman Alan Branch were missing from the New Years Eve practice session.

LaFell injured his foot or ankle Sunday in the Patriots’ 17-9 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Branch’s injury is unknown, and we might not find out what kept him out of practice until next week, when the Patriots are required to release an injury report.

The Patriots were in full pads for the practice session, and it was an encouraging sign that wide receiver Julian Edelman was on the field as he recovers from a concussion.
