Report: Brian Hoyer Started Because Johnny Manziel Went To Cavs Game

Johnny Manziel might want to reconsider going to Cleveland Cavaliers games.

FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Monday that Manziel’s decision to attend a Cavs game last Tuesday might have played a factor in Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine’s decision to stick with Brian Hoyer in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

“On Tuesday evening he was … at the Cleveland Cavaliers game, sitting court side, and it made people inside that organization, they wanted to see how he would handle potentially starting,” Glazer said, via FOX Sports. “… If you’re getting your first ever NFL start, they would hope that you’re either gonna be at the complex or home and just getting ready for the Indianapolis Colts.  He wasn’t, he was with the Cavs.”

We’ll never know whether the Browns actually chose Manziel as their starter and swapped to Hoyer after Tuesday, but if they did, that seems a bit extreme.

Manziel lives close to Quicken Loans Arena, and there’s no word if he did anything else other than sit in a courtside seat and watch LeBron James play basketball.

Hoyer once again put up a lackluster performance, only completing 45 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions in a 25-24 loss to the Colts.

Mike Pettine announced Monday that he still hasn’t figured out who would start in Week 15. Perhaps he wants to see if Manziel will spend his Tuesday night watching the Cavs take on the first-place Toronto Raptors.

Some advice for Johnny Football — maybe just watch on TV.
