Josh McDaniels has a busy week in front of him.

On top of self-scouting the New England Patriots and getting his offense ready for an unknown playoff opponent, McDaniels has agreed to interview with the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons for their open head-coaching positions, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Tuesday. The Patriots offensive coordinator won’t travel for the interviews; he will interview in New England.

The Falcons fired Mike Smith this week, and the 49ers mutually parted ways with Jim Harbaugh. There’s a Patriots connection with the Falcons, where former New England front-office executive Thomas Dimitroff remains general manager.

The Falcons could be an attractive job for McDaniels because he’d be working with a top-tier quarterback in Matt Ryan. The 49ers coaching position also is considered attractive, as they have a talented roster in a big market.

McDaniels served as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2009 and 2010 before being fired midway through his second season. He compiled an 11-17 record with the Broncos.
