The New England Patriots entered the weekend with an open spot on their roster, but they’ll have a full 53-man squad when they take on the San Diego Chargers on Sunday night.

The Patriots activated defensive tackle Sealver Siliga from the short-term injured reserve list, the team announced Saturday afternoon. Siliga was placed on the short-term IR with a designation to return Sept. 27, a few days after suffering a foot injury against the Oakland Raiders in Week 3.

The 24-year-old returned to practice Nov. 19 but did not play in New England’s previous two games against the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. The Patriots had 21 days to place Siliga on the active roster and would have had to place him on the season-ending IR if they didn’t activate him before Dec. 9.

Siliga’s roster spot was previously held by wide receiver Aaron Dobson, who was placed on the season-ending IR after suffering a hamstring injury against the Packers.
