Report: Rajon Rondo’s ‘First Priority’ Is Re-Signing With Celtics

BOSTON — Ever gone on what you thought was a date, only to later find out the other person considered it only a meal with a friend?

If so, you might know how Kobe Bryant feels.

It turns out Bryant’s breakfast with Rajon Rondo on Thursday might have been just that, with no deeper significance, according to a report. Although Rondo is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, re-signing with the Boston Celtics remains his “first priority,” a league source told CSNNE.

The feeling appears to be mutual. An ESPN Los Angeles report earlier Friday cited sources saying re-signing Rondo is the Celtics’ first priority, too.

There obviously will be some clamoring over the Celtics and Lakers engaging in a brief trade discussion involving Rondo a few months ago — fed by Thursday’s meeting in Boston between the teams’ resident stars — but a brief discussion is a long way short of substantive trade talks. Signing Rondo might cost the Celtics some extra dough, but the team — not to mention Rondo himself — sounds intent on getting a deal done.
