It might not be long before Jon Lester puts ink to paper.

Lester is expected to make his free agency decision and sign with a team during this week’s Major League Baseball winter meetings in San Diego, according to multiple reports. Sources told ESPN’s Buster Olney that Lester talks are “nearing the finish line,” with a decision expected no later than Tuesday.

While a decision could come as soon as Monday night, a major league source told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford that Lester’s decision is expected to come Tuesday, as the interest of the teams involved in the bidding — Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers — continues to evolve.

Lester’s agent, Seth Levinson, reportedly met with the Giants late Sunday night. Sources told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that the Giants are receiving “serious consideration” in the Lester sweepstakes.

The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo suggested Monday that state income taxes could impact Lester’s decision.
