Robbie Keane’s Goal Wins MLS Cup 2014 For L.A. Galaxy vs. Revolution (Video)

Neither Robbie Keane, nor the Los Angeles Galaxy nor the New England Revolution will ever forget this goal.

Keane, 34, scored the game-winning goal Sunday in the Galaxy’s 2-1 win over the Revolution in MLS Cup 2014. Keane claimed MLS Cup MVP honors based on his overall performance and pivotal strike in the biggest game of the season.

The first 90 minutes of the contest failed to produce a winner, as the Galaxy and Revolution fought hard in MLS’ championship. But the Galaxy pulled away in extra time when midfielder Marcelo Sarvas and Keane combined to beat New England’s botched offside trap with a pinpoint pass and well-timed run.

Keane then did the rest, slotting a calm finish past goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. It was the kind of strike that has made him a star in England’s Premier League, on Ireland’s national team and in MLS over the years.

Keane scored the third goal late in the Galaxy’s 3-1 win over the Houston Dynamo in 2012. Sunday’s goal was more consequential, as it gave the Galaxy and Keane their third MLS Cup title in four seasons.
