Steven Gerrard Leicester City LiverpoolSteven Gerrard isn’t talking about one of the Premier League’s hottest topics even though it centers around him.

Gerrard’s current contract with Liverpool expires next summer. Liverpool has offered Gerrard a new contract, but he hasn’t decided whether to extend his Anfield career beyond the 2014-15 season. Immediately following Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Leicester City on Tuesday, Gerrard told English television channel BT Sport that he would make a firm decision when he’s ready to do so.

“I’ll decide when I’m ready,” Gerrard said, according to the Guardian. “There’s nothing to say on the contract at the moment. When there is, the fans have known me long enough, I’ll come out and say what I need to say.”

Gerrard, 34, has played in all 19 of Liverpool’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League games this season. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers continually praises Gerrard’s on- and off-field impact and insists that he wants the club captain to remain at Anfield.

The game-winning goal Gerrard scored Tuesday highlighted his fine overall performance against Leicester City.

Pundits and fans are busy discussing Gerrard’s future, but the Liverpool icon preferred to focus on his team’s big win rather than on himself.

“The reason I don’t want to answer your questions (on my contract) tonight is because it’s not about me, it’s about the performance and a great three points, and that’s what the headline should be,” Gerrard said.

The public only can wait for Gerrard and Liverpool to break the news that is certain to be a top story.
