Darrelle Revis: Bill Belichick, Tom Brady And I Have ‘Sickness To Be The Best’

It only took 14 years, but Darrelle Revis might have cracked the New England Patriots’ code for success.

Revis sat down with The MMQB’s Greg Bedard last month to discuss how he wound up with the Patriots and how he has enjoyed his time in New England. The cornerback explained why he believes quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick have dominated the NFL for so long.

“Just going the extra mile with certain things, whether it was laps, sprints, him spending time with his receivers after practice … it’s those little things that set players apart from others,” Revis said about Brady. “You see that and how in tune he is, how focused he is, and it goes back to me and him having a sickness to be the best.

“I feel Bill’s the same way. He wants to be perfect. I think that’s his coaching style. He wants to be perfect, whether it’s a step here or a step there, or hand placement. I think that’s why we’re so successful at winning every week.”

The Patriots are preparing for Saturday’s divisional-round playoff matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. This is Revis’ first postseason appearance since 2010.

The All-Pro cornerback said he came to New England because he believed it was the best fit for him. Revis also said his relationship with Belichick is “pretty great.”
