Boston College entered Friday night as the No. 16 team in the country and had won its last four games. Northeastern came in with a losing record.

But this is the Hockey East, and anything can happen.

The Huskies (7-10-3) used some strong goaltending from netminder Clay Witt to fight to a 1-1 tie against the Eagles (11-7-2) at Matthews Arena on Friday night.

Northeastern struck first in the low-scoring affair, as forward Mike Szmatula scored on the power play with five minutes left in the second period to give his team a 1-0 advantage.

The Huskies were less than three minutes away from earning the win, but Eagles forward Adam Gilmour scored with 2:15 to help his team earn the tie.

The two teams will have another chance to settle the score, as they meet again at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m.
