Panthers Must Game-Plan Around Cardinals’ Calais Campbell To Succeed

The idea of game-planning around a player in football could conjure up thoughts of teams scheming for a way to slow a productive offensive player. The Carolina Panthers, however, likely will be centering their game plan around how to attack a defensive player.

The Arizona Cardinals have one of the NFL’s best defenses, thanksĀ in large part to defensive end Calais Campbell. The big D-lineman has been unheralded for much of his career, but it’s unlikely the Panthers will take him lightly. That’s especially true because the Panthers need to run the ball to have success, and Campbell can be a pain for teams looking toĀ excelĀ on the ground.

The secret to success for Carolina might be found in the game tape of the Seattle Seahawks’ recent blowout win over the Cardinals.

“Carolina loves pulling offensive lineman, misdirection & read scheme elements, so the overall run approach will be slightly different than what the Seahawks major in,” former NFL linebacker Matt Chatham wrote on FootballByFootball.com. “But the opportunity to fit these basic rules into their own run play preferences is the kind of simple lessons that help form winning NFL defensive gameplans.”
