Blake Swihart, Four Other Red Sox On Baseball Prospectus’ Top 101 List

It’s that time of year when all of the Major League Baseball top prospect rankings start trickling out. The Boston Red Sox are well-represented.

Baseball Prospectus released its Top 101 prospects of 2015 list Monday. Five Red Sox farmhands are featured on the list, which is headlined by Minnesota Twins outfield prospect Byron Buxton.

Blake Swihart is the highest-ranked Red Sox product at No. 17. The young catcher is followed on the list by left-hander Henry Owens (No. 46), outfielder Manuel Margot (61), lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (65) and third baseman Rafael Devers (90).

The Sox quintet’s inclusion on the Baseball Prospectus list isn’t all that surprising. The same five guys appear on Keith Law’s ESPN.com rankings and MLB.com’s rankings, with Swihart serving as the top Red Sox representative in each instance. The overall rankings and order vary to some extent, though.

Swihart, who is considered to be the top catching prospect in baseball, has been the subject of trade speculation this offseason, but the Red Sox to this point have shown an unwillingness to consider dealing the 22-year-old.
