The Boston Bruins announced Monday that goaltender Niklas Svedberg has been recalled from his conditioning loan with Providence and Malcolm Subban was assigned to the AHL club.

Svedberg has been Tuukka Rask’s backup in Boston throughout the season, but with the Bruins’ No. 1 goalie playing so well in January, it made sense to give Svedberg some playing time in the minors. Svedberg went 3-1-0 with a 2.76 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in his conditioning stint.

Subban returns to his normal role as the starting goalie for the P-Bruins. He was Boston’s backup for the last four games but did not make his NHL debut. Subban is 9-10-2 with a .921 save percentage for Providence this season.

Boston plays the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at TD Garden before going on a five-game road trip that begins Friday in Vancouver.
